Orioles' Reimold suing Johns Hopkins for negligent medical care

Injuries have interrupted Nolan Reimold's progression throughout his major league career, though the Baltimore Orioles outfielder believes some of that could have been prevented if necessary medical information he received was more accurate.

Reimold was diagnosed with a herniated disk in his neck and had surgery in 2012 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. The 31-year-old, however, is claiming that he was cleared to resume play too early, causing additional damage, and is now pursuing legal action.

"I had no idea that every game I played caused me further injury because my bones weren't fused," Reimold said in a statement obtained by the Baltimore Sun

Reimold was eventually forced to undergo another neck surgery the following year that forced him to miss 67 games.

"Nolan's injuries and subsequent absence from the game were entirely avoidable," attorney Hassan Murphy said. "He missed valuable time when he could have been playing at the highest level."

Since the initial surgery, Reimold has only played 69 games in the majors.
