Marlins' Cosart: 'Never have, never will bet on baseball'
Jarred Cosart says he's not a sports bettor.
"Never have, never will bet on baseball," Cosart told FOX Sports Florida's Christina De Nicola on Wednesday.
The Miami Marlins righty is waiting for commissioner Rob Manfred to make a call regarding Major League Baseball's investigation into his alleged gambling ties.
Screenshots emerged last week of Cosart conversing with a well-known gambling entity on Twitter, which resulted in the deletion of his account after the exchange went viral.
MLB rules state that a player who bets on a game not involving his team faces a one-year ban, but a lifetime ban is the penalty for a player who bets on or against his own team. The commissioner can also discipline players for placing other types of bets with illegal bookmakers.
Cosart is also battling a blister on his throwing hand, which has slowed his progress this spring. He was 0-2 with a lofty 8.49 ERA in four spring-training starts prior to action Wednesday.
