Trevor Cahill: Wins Rotation Spot

Cahill has won a spot in the Diamondbacks' rotation, according to AZ Central. Whether he lines up in the fourth or fifth spot remains to be seen.

Analysis:

Cahill is coming off arguably his worst season since his rookie year - one which saw him make only 17 starts while spending a significant chunk of the season in the bullpen, and post an ugly 5.61 ERA and 1.61 WHIP. Cahill's FIP was a much more reasonable 3.96, suggesting that an unusually-high BABIP and low strand rate could have contributed to some of his woes, and he remained a strong groundballer, so he might be a candidate to improve in 2015. Still, he is an NL-only play until he actually shows the improvement in results that his underlying numbers suggest could be possible.
