White Sox introduce new ticket plan to boost attendance in April, May

A couple lousy seasons in a row and the rainy Illinois spring caused attendance at U.S. Cellular Field to dwindle through April and May in recent years, prompting the Chicago White Sox to introduce a new ticket promotion for the upcoming campaign.

Eager to bolster early-season attendance, the White Sox announced a new "Ballpark Plan" for 2015 that gives fans a ticket to every home game from Monday through Thursday throughout the first two months of the season for a grand total of $29.

"Given the weather we have and the product we've had in the past, we've had crowds under 20,000, it made sense for us to use these games to get people to sample, or snack, on us," Brooks Boyer, the club's chief marketing officer, told ESPN's Darren Rovell.

The White Sox will also offer another ticket package - this one for $49 - that gives fans a ticket to every single home game in both April and May, with the exception of Opening Day and their clash against the Minnesota Twins on May 23, which will follow Paul Konerko's retirement ceremony.

Seat location will be contingent on availability and tickets will be sent directly to fans' mobile devices, as the entire promotion will be facilitated through Major League Baseball's "Ballpark" app.

"If it's 35 degrees and raining, someone might get a $30 ticket for a game," Boyer said.
