MLB Game Summary - Miami at NY Mets

Port St. Lucie, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Rafael Montero continues to make a case to be the Mets' fifth starter, as the right-hander tossed six shutout innings in New York's 7-1 win over the Miami Marlins.

Montero allowed just two hits and struck out six for New York, which had newcomer Michael Cuddyer hit his sixth homer of the spring. Lucas Duda also went deep for the Mets, ending 2-for-3 with five RBI.

Montero could fill the rotation spot vacated by the injured Zack Wheeler, who is done for the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. However, Dillon Gee appears to be the favorite for the spot if he continues to also pitch well over the remainder of the spring.

That could push Montero to the bullpen, but New York acquired a pair of left- handed relievers -- Alex Torres from San Diego and Jerry Blevins from Washington -- on Monday in two separate trades to leave his roster spot in flux.

The Mets were looking for lefty specialists for the bullpen all of spring training.

Miami's Dan Haren struggled in one of his final starts of the spring, surrendering seven runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Michael Morse went 2-for-3 for Miami.
