Royals release Ryan Roberts

Infielder Ryan Roberts was granted his unconditional release from the Kansas City Royals on Saturday, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports.

Analysis:

Evidently, Roberts saw the writing on the wall as far as his chances of making the Opening Day roster, and asked that he be allowed to seek an opportunity elsewhere. The 34-year-old went 7-for-32 (.219 average) with two walks and 11 strikeouts in 18 spring games.
