Cardinals' Garcia suffers injury setback

Reinhold Matay / USA TODAY Sports

St. Louis Cardinals left-hander Jaime Garcia recently suffered a setback with his surgically-repaired shoulder and manager Mike Matheny said the team will "hit the brakes" with the lefty, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Analysis:

The setback will delay Garcia indefinitely, with everything hinging on what's found in his evaluations in the coming days. It's a shame, as Garcia had pitched well this spring (3.86 ERA, 13:3 K:BB) and appeared to be on the verge of being named to the starting rotation. Marco Gonzales is now slated to start in Garcia's place Sunday, and Carlos Martinez will also remain stretched out for now.
