Nationals' Zimmerman out 2-3 days with sore left shoulder

Eric Hartline / USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Nationals will withhold Ryan Zimmerman from the lineup for the next two-to-three days as the first baseman deals with soreness in his upper back and left shoulder area.

Zimmerman was removed from Friday's game after injuring himself making a diving play, though he confirmed with Mark Zuckerman of CSN on Saturday that he feels better and is not expected to undergo an MRI.

It's the second time this spring that a Nationals infielder has been injured while making a defensive play. Third baseman Anthony Rendon suffered a mild MCL sprain in his knee March 9 and could miss Opening Day.

Zimmerman missed 99 games last season with a strained hamstring and broken thumb.
