Athletics' Reddick unlikely to be ready for Opening Day

Oakland A's manager Bob Melvin said Friday that Josh Reddick (oblique) probably won't be ready for Opening Day but could make his debut before the end of the team's season-opening homestand, MLB.com's Jane Lee reports.

Analysis:

The homestand lasts seven games from Apr. 6 to Apr. 12. Reddick expects to play in games this upcoming weekend, but it sounds as if he won't quite have enough time to prepare for Opening Day. The A's thus expect to start the season with Ben Zobrist in right field and Eric Sogard at second base, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
