Food manager at Kauffman, Arrowhead stadiums fired

The food safety manager for Kansas City's Kauffman and Arrowhead stadiums has been fired after taking his concerns over unsafe food handling practices public following last year's World Series, reports ESPN's Paula Lavigne.

Aramark, the company responsible for food services at the baseball and football stadiums, sent Jon Costa a letter outlining a number of reasons for his termination, most notably the fact he went public with his cleanliness concerns.

Aramark issued the following statement about the firing:

"We respect out employees' privacy and consider personnel matters confidential. We maintain that privacy even if an individual chooses to discuss their situation publicly."

The city's health department found numerous violations upon inspection of both venues after Costa provided photos of cockroaches and mouse feces, among other unsafe food practices, to media outlets.

Costa says he planned on going back to work after being put on paid administrative leave Nov. 5 when the story initially went public. Costa's attorney believes his client was wrongfully terminated under state laws and is awaiting the findings of an Occupational Safety and Health Administration investigation.
