Red Sox release Mitchell Boggs

If Mitchell Boggs is to pitch in the majors this season, it won't be with the Boston Red Sox. 

The team released the 31-year-old Thursday after Boggs struggled through five appearances this spring. 

Boggs, who hasn't pitched in the majors since 2013, allowed four runs off a pair of hits and five walks in four innings.
