LEADING OFF: Kershaw, Wainwright readying for opening day

A look at what's happening around spring training in Florida and Arizona today:

---

TOUGH JAW

Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw is set to start against the Chicago White Sox at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona. In his outing last Friday, the left-hander was struck on the jaw by a line drive. He lost one tooth and part of another.

READY TO GO

Adam Wainwright will make his second spring start when St. Louis hosts Henderson Alvarez and the Marlins in Jupiter, Florida. Wainwright was sidelined for about a month with an abdominal strain, but he is still on track to get the ball on opening night April 5 for the Cardinals at the Chicago Cubs.

BACK ON THE MOUND

Chicago Cubs left-hander Jon Lester has been dealing with a ''dead arm,'' but will pitch in a minor league game today. He's made three spring training starts after signing a $155 million, six-year contract to join the Cubs in the offseason.

KING FELIX

Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez faces the Kansas City Royals after giving up six runs over 2 2-3 innings in his most recent outing. Hernandez has been limited this spring to manage his workload before the season.

SHOULDERING UP

Brewers right-hander Mike Fiers, who has been sidelined with shoulder soreness for a week, is scheduled to face a Mariners split squad at Maryvale Baseball Park in Phoenix.

GOING AGAIN

Tigers reliever Joe Nathan is supposed to pitch a second straight day for the first time this spring, this outing against the Orioles in Lakeland, Florida. He gave up two hits in a scoreless inning vs. Miami on Wednesday. ''I felt so good today,'' Nathan said. ''It felt good coming out of my hand and I knew I could beat guys with my fastball. The difference was night and day compared to the last time out.''
