Cardinals' Carpenter leaves game with quad contusion
Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports
St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter left Wednesday's game against the Washington Nationals after suffering a right quadriceps contusion.
Carpenter, who was hit by a pitch in the first inning, remained in the game until the third before the team removed him for precautionary reasons. The Cardinals did not disclose if Carpenter is expected to miss any time.
The two-time All-Star is off to a strong start this spring, hitting .348 (8-for-23) with five walks and a double through 13 games.
