Martinez (knee) will slide into bases prior to Wednesday's game, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis:
Martinez made his spring debut Sunday, going 0-for-3 with a strikeout against the Braves, but he's been under strict orders not to slide into any bases to this point. While the 36-year-old Martinez will not be playing first base anytime soon, with manager Brad Ausmus calling him the team's fourth option at the position "for now," it appears he should be able to log enough at-bats as the DH to prepare for the regular season.
