Tigers' Hanrahan to meet with orthopedist Tuesday

Detroit Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski didn't seem overly optimistic about Joel Hanrahan's health when he signed the 33-year-old to a minor-league deal in November.

Less than four months later, Dombrowski's reservations appear to have been justified.

Hanrahan - who hasn't pitched in a professional game since undergoing Tommy John surgery in May 2013 - will leave camp Tuesday to visit with Dr. Keith Meister, a Texas-based orthopedist. 

"Just looking for answers," Hanrahan told MLB.com's Jason Beck. "I've been going at it for a while and it's not working out."

Hanrahan seemed optimistic about his recovery earlier this offseason, but his upcoming consultation with Meister doesn't inspire much optimism that the two-time All-Star will be able to crack the 25-man roster on Opening Day.

"I'm past the frustration part," he said. "It's been long enough. You guys all know that."
