Analysis:

Manager Lloyd McClendon didn't call it a platoon, but that's how he described it. "I think the combination of both of those guys out there should produce a left fielder where you have a combination of 20-25 home runs and 100-plus RBIs," McClendon said. "Now, you've got something." A platoon was an obvious option when the Mariners signed Weeks to play outfield, but McClendon's description makes it seem likely to happen. Ackley slugged .442 with 13 homers against RHP last year vs. .298 and one homer against LHP.
