Report: Mets have no in-season extension talks planned with Daniel Murphy

Daniel Murphy's tenure in Queens may last just one more season.

The 29-year-old second baseman will become a free agent following the 2015 campaign, and the New York Mets have no in-season extension talks planned, a team source told ESPN's Adam Rubin. Though Murphy earned the first All-Star appearance of his career in 2014, the expectation is that the Mets won't re-sign him.

Murphy will likely be replaced at second base next season by Dilson Herrera or Wilmer Flores (provided the club finds a suitable replacement at shortstop), but he nevertheless expressed Thursday his desire to remain with the Mets beyond 2015.

"As of right now, I'm a Met for this year for sure," Murphy said. "I'd love to be here in the future. That, again, is way in the distant future. I've got too much anxiety about today to worry about what happens in November."

Though his defense is often criticized, Murphy boasts a .288/.327/.407 line (107 OPS+) over the last three seasons while averaging nine home runs and 15 stolen bases per year.
