Cardinals GM John Mozeliak said that Reynolds is an accomplished MLB player and the team expects him to offer legitimate competition at first base. While it's safe to assume that Adams will be the primary first baseman, his value could fluctuate wildly depending on his and Reynolds' performances this spring. Reynolds is expected to get most of the at-bats against left-handed pitchers, but it's possible a strong spring from Adams could get him nearly full-time duty. On the other hand, a poor spring from Adams could give Reynolds an opportunity to see some time against righties as well as lefties.
