Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Hyun-jin Ryu avoided an early season injury scare after an MRI on his back returned negative, the team announced.
Ryu threw a bullpen session Tuesday but did not work out the following day due to tightness in his mid-back.
"I kind of expect this is not going to be a lingering thing," manager Don Mattingly told Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday.
As a precaution, the team held Ryu out of workouts Thursday.
The 27-year-old posted a 14-7 record and 3.38 ERA in 26 starts last season, but was limited to 152 innings as a result of shoulder inflammation and a strained right glute.
