Analysis:

Ryan's comments would make it appear that Meyer is the leading candidate to win the fifth starter role, but the competition (which includes Tommy Milone, Trevor May, Tim Stauffer and Mike Pelfrey) is likely to be wide open. Meyer appears to be over the right shoulder inflammation that sidelined him late last season, but we'll need to see how his shoulder responds in spring training. Meyer had a strong season at Triple-A with a 3.52 ERA and a 10.6 K/9 and is considered the team's top pitching prospect.
