The Baltimore Orioles and shortstop Everth Cabrera will likely finalize a reported one-year, $2.4-million deal Wednesday, according to Eduardo A. Encinia of the Baltimore Sun.

Cabrera, who can also earn an additional $600,000 through performance bonuses, is expected to arrive Tuesday at the Orioles' spring training headquarters in Sarasota, Fla.

The 28-year-old will likely serve as a utility man for Baltimore on 2015, though he could contend with 23-year-old Jonathan Schoop for regular playing time at second base.

An All-Star in 2013, Cabrera's value plummeted after he incurred a 50-game suspension for his role in the Biogenesis scandal. He was also charged in November for resisting arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana.

Since his 2009 debut with the San Diego Padres, Cabrera owns a .248/.319/.333 line (86 OPS+) over parts of six seasons in the majors and has averaged 33 stolen bases per year since 2012.
