Tigers' Price would 'rather not talk about' contract extension all year long
Detroit Tigers starter David Price is open to signing a contract extension with the club, but doesn't want negotiations dragging on late into the season.
"I'd rather not talk about it all year long," Price told reporters Sunday. "(But) I'm not closing every door."
The left-hander avoided arbitration and signed a record-setting one-year, $19.75-million deal with the Tigers last month.
Price said Sunday that he won't set a deadline on a long-term deal, but would prefer if talks cool down after Opening Day.
The four-time All-Star broke off extension talks with the Tampa Bay Rays last season before being traded to Detroit on Aug. 1.
"I'm focused on being a Tiger ... right now this is home, and I'm fine with that," he said Sunday.
Price pitched a career-high 248 1/3 innings in 2014, going 15-12 with a 3.26 ERA.
He first mentioned being open to signing an extension with the Tigers in January.
