Royals' Gordon says injured wrist will be ready for Opening Day

Alex Gordon isn't worried about missing any regular-season games after undergoing offseason wrist surgery.

"Opening Day hasn't even crossed my mind," Gordon said at the Kansas City Royals' annual FanFest on Saturday. "We're talking about missing a week of spring training. That's it."

Gordon is still sporting a soft cast, which spans from his right hand to his elbow, but hopes to have it removed in the next nine days.

"Really, we're going to take it slow," Gordon added. "There is no timetable. It's spring training. So there's no need to rush anything."

Gordon suffered the injury just prior to the All-Star break while breaking up a double play, but he soldiered on for the remainder of the regular season and well into October.

Gordon hit .266 with 19 home runs and 74 RBIs in 156 games.
