Charles LeClaire / USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Mariners have acquired some veteran help behind the plate.

John Baker reportedly agreed to a minor-league deal with the Mariners on Wednesday, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, and is likely to compete with Jesus Sucre for the backup job behind Mike Zunino.

The 34-year-old owns seven years of major league service, but has seen his playing time limited throughout his career. Over the past four seasons, Baker has appeared in a combined 163 games, while hitting .208/.288/.243 with 15 doubles and no home runs.

Baker did see a spike in his playing time a season ago while a member of the Chicago Cubs, featuring in 68 games while slashing .192/.273/.231.

The Cubs declined to tender Baker a contract in December, making him a free agent.
