Detwiler will be stretched out as a starter in spring training, but he will have to compete for a spot in the Rangers' rotation, Fox Sports Southwest's Anthony Andro reports.

Analysis:

The Rangers traded for Anthony Ranaudo on Tuesday, who will also be given a chance to compete for a spot in the rotation. While it is not a very imposing bunch after Yu Darvish, Derek Holland and to a lesser extent, Yovani Gallardo, there are a lot of similarly skilled pitchers who could find their way to starts at the back of the Rangers' rotation this season. Detwiler may emerge as one of the five best options, but it is something that will have to play out this spring.
