Report: Giants avoid arbitration with Brandon Crawford on 1-year deal

Ed Szczepanski-USA TODAY Sports

Brandon Crawford has cashed in months after helping the San Francisco Giants win their third World Series title in five years.

Crawford avoided arbitration with the Giants on Tuesday, agreeing to a one-year deal that will pay him just north of $3 million, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports

The defensive wizard is coming off his best season at the plate, hitting .246 with a career-high .713 OPS and 10 homers. He played in a personal-best 153 games and ranked tied for second among all qualified shortstops with a 10.5 percent walk rate. The increased offense was a welcome sign for the light-hitting 28-year-old, who has provided the majority of his value with his glove over four seasons in the big leagues.

Crawford, who was projected to earn $2.5 million in his first year of arbitration eligibility, reportedly filed at $3.95 million, while the Giants countered at $2.4 million.

First baseman Brandon Belt and offseason acquisition Casey McGehee, who is set to fill the void left behind by Pablo Sandoval at third base, are the Giants' two remaining arbitration-eligible players.
