Analysis:

Holt proved to be an indispensable reserve for the injury-plagued Red Sox last season, batting an impressive .281/.331/.381 while seeing time at every position but pitcher and catcher. The versatility allowed Holt to retain a regular lineup spot near the top of the order from about the middle of May until the concussion knocked him out for the final week of the season. Following the offseason additions of Hanley Ramirez and Pablo Sandoval along with the return to health of several key contributors, Holt looks destined to fill a utility role this season, something his skill set is probably better suited for.
