Mets' Cuddyer on Wright: 'I see that spark in him again'

New York Mets outfielder Michael Cuddyer believes all signs point to his longtime friend and first time teammate David Wright bouncing back from a career-worst season in 2014.

"I see that spark in him again this offseason." Cuddyer told Mike Puma of the New York Post. "I've seen him a couple of times. I've hit with him a couple of times, and I see that enthusiasm, that excitement and the strength - he looks strong right now, which is good to see."

Wright was hindered by a left-shoulder injury that forced him to miss 27 games throughout the season and eventually led the Mets to shut him down in September before undergoing surgery.

The 32-year-old failed to make an All-Star team for just the second time in the last nine seasons, thanks in large part to hitting .269/.324/.374 and eight home runs in 134 games.

Cuddyer, who spent last season with the Colorado Rockies, recounted that Wright seemed distraught when the Mets visited last September.

"Obviously, I could tell on his face he wasn't right, he wasn't the same person, not only on the baseball field, but in general," Cuddyer said.

The first game of the series ended up being Wright's last of the season.
