Blue Jays' Sanchez: 'I would like to start but I understand the situation'

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Aaron Sanchez has his preference, but is willing to accept whatever role the team has for him this season.

"I would like to start but I understand the situation," Sanchez told Sportsnet 590 The Fan. "We have a good team this year and have a chance to win a lot of ballgames and if that means me pitching at the back end of the bullpen helps this team win more games than obviously that's what I'm here to do."

Sanchez made his major league debut in late July and seamlessly transitioned into a relief role, posting a 1.09 ERA and 0.69 WHIP in 33 innings.

General manager Alex Anthopoulos has yet to decide how the 22-year-old will be used this season, but did state last month that having Sanchez as a reliever again is a possibility.

Since Casey Janssen's departure for free agency, Sanchez's name has been floated as a potential candidate to feature as the team's closer.
