Scott Boras: Strasburg wants to stay with Nationals

Scott Boras, who represents right-hander Stephen Strasburg, attempted Wednesday to squash a recent report that suggested his client was ready to move on from the Washington Nationals after the club signed Max Scherzer to a seven-year deal.

“We don’t know where that came from,” Boras told Tom Schad of the Washington Times. “Stephen Strasburg wants to play here and wants to be with Max Scherzer and grow. I don’t know who the writer was, but the writer certainly never called us and he never called Stephen.”

Though Scherzer's arrival in Washington should give the Nationals the league's best rotation in 2015, the report indicated that Strasburg is "very much available" through trade.

Strasburg, the first overall pick in the 2009 draft, remains under team control for two more seasons and fashioned a 3.14 ERA (119 ERA+) with a 1.12 WHIP over 34 starts in 2014. The 26-year-old also notched a career-best 215 innings pitched and tied for the National League lead with 242 strikeouts.
