Rangers unveil Gallardo: 'I've always wanted to be a part of this team'

Yovani Gallardo is living a childhood dream.

The newest arm in the Texas Rangers rotation was revealed Wednesday, and expressed his excitement to pitch for the team he rooted for while growing up in nearby Fort Worth.

"It feels great, I'm excited," Gallardo said. "Growing up here in Texas, living in Fort Worth all my life, it's definitely a dream to have the opportunity to play for a team like the Rangers and now I have that opportunity. I can't wait."

The 28-year-old was acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday and gives the Rangers rotation a solid arm behind Yu Darvish and Derek Holland.

Gallardo, who had spent his entire eight-year career in Milwaukee, admitted that he wasn't fortunate to attend many Rangers' games in person. Yet he always hoped his career would lead him to Arlington one day.

"I didn't come to very many games as a kid, but I always watched on TV," Gallardo said. "The few times that I did show up I wanted to see myself out in that outfield for batting practice.

"I've always wanted to be a part of this team."
