The Pirates intend to use Kang as a utilityman or bench player heading into the 2015 season, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Analysis:

Kang is reputed to have the ability to play second base, shortstop, or third base, but the organization has little idea how well or how quickly the Korean will transition to the major leagues. He led his league -- thought to be comparable to Double-A ball -- with 40 homers in 2014. "We're really intrigued by his offensive upside," GM Neal Huntington said. "The raw power is obvious...we have zero intent to send him to the minor leagues." Kang is one of the few players whose Grapefruit League performance will actually give insight into his immediate future.
