Harvey 'a little surprised' with number of innings Mets will let him pitch in 2015

After the New York Mets kept a reluctant Matt Harvey shut down for the entirety of last season following Tommy John surgery, the right-hander received some encouraging news regarding how much the team expects to use him in 2015.

"We've kind of gone over some ideas and nothing's really set right now, I think," Harvey told SportsNet New York. "I think I was a little surprised with the number that they might let me go to.

"Everything is perfect and happy. We'll see how it goes. We'll see with what we come up with. But nothing is set in stone right now. We don't have a specific number or idea when we're going to skip a start or move forward in that direction. All of that will be worked out."

Harvey was cleared to throw off a mound in early August but the front office opted not to risk using the 25-year-old in what had become a lost season.

In November, general manager Sandy Alderson expressed that the team would not delay the start of Harvey's season in an attempt to avoid shutting him down prior to a potential postseason run - like the Washington Nationals did with Stephen Strasburg in 2012 - though manager Terry Collins said he could have some starts skipped.

An All-Star in 2013, Harvey owns a 12-10 record over 36 career starts while fashioning a 2.39 ERA and 0.99 WHIP.
