The Pittsburgh Pirates avoided arbitration with nine players, including third baseman Josh Harrison, the club announced Friday.

Harrison, who was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter, agreed to terms on a one-year deal worth $2.8 million.

The Pirates also struck deals with Antonio Bastardo, Francisco Cervelli, Tony Watson, Chris Stewart, Sean Rodriguez, Mark Melancon and Jared Hughes.

The Pirates also announced that they failed to reach an agreement with three arbitration-eligible players: second baseman Neil Walker, first baseman Pedro Alvarez and pitcher Vance Worley.
