Agent: Justin Upton open to contract extension with San Diego
Only a couple of days after San Diego acquired the outfielder, Justin Upton's agent, Larry Reynolds, told MLB Network Radio that his client would be open to signing a contract extension with the Padres as long as it was before the start of Spring Training.
"If anything were to happen, we'd probably want to do that before he packed up to go to Spring Training," said Reynolds, adding that the Braves never approached the outfielder about a new contract.
Upton is currently in the last year of a six-year, $51.25 million contract with the Arizona. He will make $14.5 million in 2015.
The 27-year-old silver slugger was acquired by the Padres from the Atlanta Braves on Dec. 19.
He slashed .270 with 29 home runs and 102 RBI in 154 games for the Braves in 2014.
