Report: Red Sox discussing trade involving Allen Craig

Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports

The Boston Red Sox remain determined to deal from their surplus of outfielder depth, and the latest rumor to surface involves Allen Craig.

Sources tell Jon Morosi of FOX Sports that the Red Sox are engaged in active trade talks with at least one team regarding Craig, who is apparently fully healed from a left foot injury that's plagued him the last two years.

Craig, 29, suffered through significant regression in 2014, hitting well below his career averages while striking out a personal-high 113 times. The right-handed-hitting Craig spent most of his time last season in right field, but also boasts more than 230 career games at first base.

His availability figures to generate plenty of interest given his age, cost certainty (under contract through 2018) and above-league-average offensive production between 2011-13.

Craig hit .215/.279/.315 across 126 games last year - a far cry from the form that saw him OPS at least .830 in each of the three seasons prior.
