Report: Rays' Myers dealt to Padres as part of 3-team, 11-player trade

The Tampa Bay Rays have parted ways with 2013 American League Rookie of the Year Wil Myers.

Myers was dealt to the San Diego Padres as part of a three-team trade involving the Washington Nationals, according to multiple reports

The blockbuster deal reportedly involves 11 players and is headlined by Myers and 2014 first-rounder Trea Turner, a shortstop out of North Carolina State.

Here's a breakdown of Wednesday's mega-deal:

To Rays: outfielder Steven Souza Jr. and left-hander Travis Ott from the Nationals, as well as catcher Rene Rivera, minor-league pitcher Burch Smith and first-base prospect Jake Bauers from San Diego.

To Nationals: Turner and right-hander Joe Ross from the Padres.

To Padres: Myers, catcher Ryan Hanigan, left-hander Jose Castillo and right-hander Gerardo Reyes from the Rays.

Myers struggled through an injury-plagued 2014 season, hitting .222/.294/.320 with six homers in 87 games after bursting onto scene and slugging his way to ROY honors in 2013. The 24-year-old missed a chunk of time last season after fracturing his right wrist in May and largely disappointed during his sophomore campaign.

But Myers isn't far removed from a 2013 season in which he hit .293/.354/.478 while blasting 13 homers in 88 games.

Myers was considered one of the game's premier prospects after he hit 37 homers with a .987 OPS across two minor-league levels in the Kansas City Royals organization in 2012. The Royals then traded Myers - along with right-hander Jake Odorizzi and two prospects - in December 2012 to the Rays for righties James Shields and Wade Davis, a move that was widely derided at the time.

Joining Myers is Hanigan, a glove-first veteran catcher who owns a career .256/.353/.341 batting line, and two pitchers in Reyes and 18-year-old Castillo who need plenty more time to develop in the minors.

Turner will have to be included as a player to be named later due to MLB rules that don't allow teams to trade recently drafted players until one year after they've signed. The earliest Turner could become an official part of the deal is June 13, according to J.J. Cooper of Baseball America

The 21-year-old Turner impressed during his first taste of professional baseball, hitting .323/.406/.448 across two Class-A levels. San Diego selected the speedster, who converted on 23 of 27 stolen-base attempts, as the No.13 overall pick.

Turner figures to be the Nationals' future shortstop, as the team risks losing Ian Desmond to free agency following the 2015 season.

Ross, the other player acquired by Washington, is the younger brother of Padres right-hander Tyson Ross.

Souza headlines the return for the Rays. The 25-year-old hit .350/.432/.590 with 18 homers at Triple-A last season, where he earned International League MVP. He also made his major league debut, appearing in 21 games with the Nationals.

The Rays also get Rivera, a catcher who is known for his defensive work but is coming off a career year at the plate. He hit 11 homers with a .751 OPS while splitting duties behind the dish.

Smith made 10 appearances in the majors last season, while Bauers and Ott have yet to play above A ball.
