Mets' Gee: Trade rumors 'tougher for my wife and my mom'

Dillon Gee's name continues to surface in trade talks as the New York Mets look to unload a starting pitcher this winter, but the 28-year-old understands that such things are an occupational hazard.

The constant rumors, however, have been hard on his loved ones.

"I can almost guarantee you it's tougher for my wife and my mom -- probably more my mom than anybody else," Gee told SiriusXM. "Me, I know that's the business. It doesn't bother me one bit.

Gee, who's spent his entire career with the Mets after being selected by the club in the 21st round of the 2007 draft, emphasized that he wants to remain in Flushing. He also admitted he's a little flattered that other teams have inquired about him.

"I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a little exciting to know that there are other teams that are asking about me," Gee said. "That's kind of the thing if you do get traded. Yeah, it's a little bittersweet because you're leaving the team and your friends, and really the Mets have been like a family to me. But the other, flip side is, hey, somebody wants you. Not to say the Mets don't. I have no hard feelings either way. Like I said, I understand what it is."

Gee fashioned a 4.00 ERA with a 1.25 WHIP over 22 starts last season, but remains one of the Mets' likeliest trade candidates this winter, along with fellow starters Bartolo Colon and Jonathon Niese. According to a recent report from ESPN's Adam Rubin, the Mets are shopping Gee aggressively.
