Report: No extension talks between Indians, Kluber at winter meetings

Corey Kluber earned a Cy Young award for his efforts in 2014, his first full season at the major-league level, but the Cleveland Indians did not broach a contract extension with the 28-year-old during this week's winter meetings in San Diego, according to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish.

Kluber, though, remains under team control through the 2018 campaign and will only first gain arbitration-eligibility following the 2015 season. The Indians may thus opt to assess Kluber's performance next year before offering him an extension, as the right-hander has only once eclipsed 150 innings pitched in a single season.

Selected in the fourth round of the 2007 draft, Kluber fashioned a 2.44 ERA with a 5.27 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 34 starts in 2014, narrowly edging Felix Hernandez out for the American League Cy Young award.
