Chris Parmelee: Designated For Assignment

The Twins designated Parmelee for assignment Saturday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Analysis:

A spot on the 40-man roster had to be freed up with Ervin Santana's signing becoming official, and Parmelee was the casualty. In 87 games with the big club last season, Parmelee hit .256/.307/.384 with seven homers and 28 RBI. He's hit .295/.395/.530 in parts of three seasons at the Triple-A level, and it seems likely another team will grab him off waivers to compete for a bench role.
