Twins finalize 4-year deal with Ervin Santana

Daniel Shirey-USA TODAY Sports

Though it may have taken longer than he anticipated, Ervin Santana finalized a four-year deal with the Minnesota Twins on Friday, finally receiving the long-term deal he's been looking for since last winter.

Santana's deal is also expected to include a $14-million vesting option for the 2019 campaign, though the club has yet to confirm that detail. The club didn't disclose the contract's financial terms, but Santana is reportedly set to earn $55 million contract over the next four seasons.

Santana, an All-Star in 2008, rejected a $15.3-million qualifying offer from the Atlanta Braves earlier this offseason after crafting a 3.95 ERA (92 ERA+) over 31 starts in 2014. The 10-year veteran is set to join Phil Hughes atop a rotation that fashioned the worst earned run average in the majors last season, accomplishing the dubious feat for a second successive season.
