Report: Mariners offer 3-year deal to Melky Cabrera

The Seattle Mariners finalized a seven-year contract extension with Kyle Seager earlier this month and shortly thereafter signed Nelson Cruz to a four-year deal, but general manager Jack Zduriencik hasn't finished reconstructing his roster.

The Mariners have reportedly offered a three-year contract to Melky Cabrera, one of the top position players still available in free agency, according to a translated report from Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportes.

Cabrera, however, is said to be seeking at least a four-year commitment after managing a 126 OPS+ with 16 home runs over 139 games for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2014. It may therefore prove difficult for the two sides to  reach an agreement, as the Mariners appear unwilling to offer more than three years.

Cabrera, who turned 30 in August, rejected a $15.3-million qualifying offer from the Blue Jays earlier this offseason and would cost the Mariners a second-round draft pick if the two were to work out a deal.
