Report: Orioles leading contender to host 2016 MLB All-Star Game

Jeff Curry / USA TODAY Sports

Major League Baseball's biggest stars could be playing the 2016 midsummer classic in Maryland.

The Baltimore Orioles are the leading contender to get the 2016 All-Star Game, according to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports. Either the San Diego Padres or Miami Marlins will host the festivities the following year.

With the Cincinnati Reds hosting the 2015 All-Star Game, an American League team is expected to be awarded the event in 2016 due to MLB's preference to alternate leagues annually.

Baltimore has twice hosted the All-Star game, in 1958 at Memorial Stadium and in 1993 at Camden Yards.
