The Colorado Rockies are dangling Drew Stubbs.
With the Baltimore Orioles having already lost both outfielders Nelson Cruz and Nick Markakis to free agency, the Rockies have contacted them to gauge their interest in acquiring Stubbs, according to Roch Kubatko of MASN.
The Rockies are hoping for pitching in return.
Stubbs is coming off a solid season - his first with the Rockies - but is projected to earn $5.7 million in arbitration, an expensive deal for a guy who is expected to be the fourth outfielder in Colorado.
Stubbs hit .289/.339/.482 with 15 home runs, 20 stolen bases and 43 RBIs but struck out 136 times in 132 games last season. The 29-year-old benefited highly from hitting at Coors Field, and his home/road splits should be a cause for concern for the Orioles.
Split | PA | 2B | HR | AVG/SLG/OBP |
---|---|---|---|---|
Home | 225 | 15 | 12 | .356/.388/.611 |
Away | 199 | 7 | 3 | .211/.283/.333 |
The Orioles have reportedly received major interest in left-hander Wei-Yin Chen, though it's unknown if the Rockies are one of the teams with interest.
