The San Diego Padres reportedly found a new shortstop less than 24 hours after non-tendering incumbent Everth Cabrera.

According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Padres agreed to a one-year deal with shortstop Clint Barmes on Wednesday that includes a club option for the 2016 season.

Barmes, a 12-year veteran who appeared in just 48 games last season with the Pittsburgh Pirates, was relegated to a reserve role in favor of Jordy Mercer. The 35-year-old managed 0.3 WAR in his limited playing time, hitting .245/.328/.294 in 116 plate appearances while providing 3 Defensive Runs Saved with a 1.8 UItimate Zone Rating.

Barmes will likely contend with Alexi Amarista for playing time in 2015, though the Padres may be inclined to pursue a more appealing everyday option.
