VIDEO: 5 plays from the 2014 season we're extremely thankful for

Robert Deutsch / USA TODAY Sports

Thanksgiving is a time of reflection, and for the baseball fan, a time of mourning until the next season rolls around in the spring.

Here are five plays from the 2014 season we should reflect on and be very thankful for:

No. 5 - Everything Andrelton Simmons did on the field

Atlanta Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons wowed us nearly every time he took the field, so it was impossible to narrow it down to only one play. Here's a montage of the two-time Gold Glover's best defensive plays from 2014:

No. 4 - Steven Souza makes diving catch to secure Jordan Zimmermann's no-hitter

The Washington Nationals had the National League East locked up long before heading into the final day of the regular season, but that didn't stop Jordan Zimmermann from tossing the first no-hitter in franchise history. Nats left fielder Steven Souza sealed the deal with an incredible diving catch, one that will live forever in the minds of Washington fans for years to come.

No. 3 - 50 Cent's horrendous first pitch

Rapper 50 Cent had the honor of throwing out the first pitch at a New York Mets home game in late May, and provided us with one of the best misplays of the year.

Not to be outdone, Miss Texas stole the spotlight from 50 Cent later in August with an even more pitiful attempt.

No. 2 - Yoenis Cespedes's godly throw to nail Howie Kendrick

Every year there's one play that defines an entire season, and you see it on the highlight reels over and over again all summer. Yoenis Cespedes earned that honor in 2014 with a godlike throw from the left-field wall to nail Howie Kendrick at home plate.

No. 1 - The Captain says farewell to the Bronx in walk-off fashion

Derek Jeter's farewell tour reached its climax when he delivered a walk-off single in his final home game. The spine-tingling moment couldn't have been scripted any better. Farewell, Captain.
