Pablo Sandoval pens thank you note to Giants fans

Kyle Terada / USA TODAY Sports

As Pablo Sandoval embarks on a self-proclaimed new challenge with the Boston Red Sox, the man adored by fans in San Francisco for seven seasons took time to thank Giants fans for all of their support.

I greatly appreciate the opportunity and privilege I had working for the past 12 years with the SF Giants organization. The decision to accept this new opportunity with the Boston Red Sox organization comes from my own personal desire. It is a new challenge that requires great responsibility which will keep me motivated and passionate for this game that I love. (I am eager to make a positive contribution to the team and fulfill new goals during our career together.) To my fans in San Francisco: I will never forget our glorious memories together. I will always keep a special place for all of you in my heart. Thank you for your unconditional support throughout the years.

Signed as an amateur free agent in 2003, Sandoval went on to play 869 games for the Giants and was an instrumental part of the team's three World Series championships.

Despite an offer from the Giants in the neighborhood of the five-year, $95 million that he received from the Red Sox, Sandoval decided that a change in scenery was necessary for his career.
