Report: Marlins inquired about Chris Davis, Evan Gattis

The Miami Marlins are reportedly seeking an upgrade at first base.

The club has called about the availability of Baltimore Orioles slugger Chris Davis and Evan Gattis of the Atlanta Braves, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

The team appears to not be satisfied with Garrett Jones at first base in 2015, and the free-agent market at the position is relatively weak after Adam LaRoche signed with the Chicago White Sox.

The Braves are actively shopping Gattis who can catch, play first base and the outfield. He is also under control until after the 2018 season when he's set to hit the open market. The 28-year-old hit .263 with 22 home runs and 52 RBIs for the Braves last season.

Davis, on the other hand, is arbitration-eligible this offseason and is projected to make $11.8 million through the process. The 2013 home run king was unable to replicate his incredible run from two seasons ago, but still hit 26 homers and drove in 72 runs in 2014.
