Report: Braves have expressed interest in David Ross

Mark L. Baer / USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Braves have expressed interest in a possible reunion with veteran catcher David Ross, according to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Ross spent the past two seasons as a backup for the Boston Red Sox, but had spent the previous four years in Atlanta.

While the 37-year-old's offensive capabilities are lacking - though he did his seven home runs in 152 at-bats last season - Ross's ability to mentor young catchers and manage pitching staff's has been lauded.

With the Braves expected to move Evan Gattis from behind the plate to left field, Ross would fit in nicely as a backup to Christian Bethancourt. The 23-year-old owns 32 games of major league experience.

Ross appeared in 86 games over the past two seasons, slashing .187/.276/.374 with 11 home runs and 25 RBIs.
