Report: Pirates agree to 2-year, $3-million deal with Radhames Liz

The Pittsburgh Pirates reportedly augmented their pitching staff Friday with yet another reclamation project, agreeing to a two-year, $3-million deal with right-hander Radhames Liz, according to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish.

Regarded as a top pitching prospect after signing with the Baltimore Orioles in 2005, the Dominican native hasn't pitched in the major leagues since 2009. He logged a mere 110 1/3 innings over three brief stints in the majors - with a 7.50 ERA and 1.89 WHIP over 21 starts and seven relief appearances from 2007-2009 - before ultimately joining the LG Twins of the Korea Baseball Organization in 2011.

After three impressive seasons in Korea, Liz attempted to revive his MLB career last spring, signing a minor-league deal with the Toronto Blue Jays in March. The 31-year-old didn't pitch in the majors last season, but fashioned a 2.95 ERA across 12 starts between the Blue Jays' affiliates in the Eastern League and International League, respectively.

Liz, who led the KBO in strikeouts in 2013, will likely compete for one of the spots in a reconstituted Pirates rotation unlikely to feature either Francisco Liriano or Edinson Volquez next season.
